How Acupuncture Can Help Us All Through COVID
At the time of writing this post, we are 2 years into COVID and all that has come with these interesting times. I have found that how we have all dealt with COVID and the past 2 years has been really varied and many people have been coming in for treatments to seek support for themselves and their family members for various reasons. We have all seen the various impacts on people’s health- physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, occupationally and financially. There are many people that have endured great losses during COVID and those that have celebrated great success. There are those that have grown weary or have struggled with anxiety, fear, and depression. There are also those that are struggling with anxiety as things opened back up or as the expectations to return back to offices have increased. All of this to say that how the past 2 years have impacted each of us is different and how we all have responded has greatly varied depending on our individual circumstances. As a health care provider, I cannot make assumptions of how it impacts each and every person that walks into my clinic. My intention is to be present, listen, talk with you and provide support as we address each of your concerns.
One of the things I love is how acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can address each of these components to help support us all through these crazy times. I have been treating many people dealing with the impact of COVID physically, emotionally, and mentally. This has been empowering for many people as they found their usual tools for health and wellbeing just weren’t enough.
Strengthen your Immune System
What I have found through the past 2 years is that people have been wanting to do everything they can to boost their immune systems, especially as things open back up and masks have come off in many settings. Through the use of acupuncture and herbs, I am able to support your immune system so that it is functioning in the most optimal way. Herbs can give an added layer of protection to strengthen your immune system as well as provide protection if you are exposed to colds, viruses, and even allergens – especially this time of year.
Strengthen and support your mental health:
As people have been experiencing an increase in anxiety and depression from the prolonged impact of the past 2 years and all they have endured, acupuncture and herbs can help bring your nervous system and emotions back into balance. I have found more people needing to access treatment for their mental health. I have seen more patients coming in to treat anxiety and depression, to support them through the significant impact from grief and loss, as well as those that have had an increase in addictive behaviors and many other mental health symptoms. While providing mental health focused treatments, many patients feel more hopeful knowing there are holistic treatment options they can incorporate into their lives to add to their toolboxes.
Treat lingering COVID symptoms:
I have also had a number of patients that did have COVID coming in to have lingering symptoms of COVID treated that have really impacted their quality of life.
The symptoms I see most frequently are loss of taste, loss of smell, chronic fatigue, residual breathing issues, and chronic headaches. The loss of taste and smell have had a significant impact on people, more than they expected, especially for those that haven’t had it return for over a year now. I have seen after weekly treatments, that people have started to regain their ability to taste and smell, energy levels have improved, respiratory issues clear, and headaches and residual pain improve.
