Allergies: Can Acupuncture and Herbs Help?

Yes! Absolutely.

Acupuncture along with herbal medicine are two great ways to treat and prevent seasonal allergies. Acupuncture can not only help to treat and minimize the symptoms you experience with allergies but it can also boost the immune system so that your allergies won’t bother you in the first place.

Prevention: yes it is the best medicine!

The traditional practice of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is rooted in prevention and maintaining balanced health. This approach is very different than what we are used to in Western medicine. Think about the fact that when most people experience allergy symptoms, they go to their doctors or to their local pharmacy and get medication to address the symptoms: congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, etc. What we don’t often hear about are ways to prevent or minimize allergies before they even get triggered. This is one of the things I LOVE about Chinese Medicine.

I see so many patients that come in with allergies that have been suffering with them for years. They have often just accepted it as a part of life and something they have to live with. The beautiful part of this medicine is that not only can we treat the symptoms, but we also focus on prevention. We can work with your immune system and the root cause of allergies so that you can experience a different solution and you won’t dread the places or times of year that trigger your allergies.

What would treatment look like for you?

This can be hard to answer as it would be individualized based on your health history and this can be determined after a thorough intake and initial treatment. I have patients that come in prior to their “allergy season” and they get a head of the game. I have some patients that come in for maintenance treatments throughout the year. These two approaches are the most effective.

I also have plenty of patients that come in once their allergies have flared up and we can typically get them calmed down and the symptoms cleared relatively quickly. Regardless of which approach you will take, we can help! There is a better way!
